Ing:
1/2 cup red lentils or masoor dal
1.5 cups white rice
wash and keep aside
2.5 cups water
1 medium onions sliced thinly
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp turmeric
6 to 7 curry leaves
1 cinnamon sticks
2 red dried chili peppers
4 cardamon pods
4 whole cloves
1 tsp salt
1 tsp ginger and garlic
1 tsp chili garlic sauce
1 tbsp olive oil
Method:
Wash the rice and lentils and keep them aside. In a sauce pan add the olive oil once a little hot add the onions and pan fry the onions until they are translucent and not brown, add the cumin, red peppers, cinnamon, curry leaves, fresh ginger and garlic, sambal and stir everything really well until fragrant. Add the soaked rice and lentil in the pan and stir well until everything is combined really well, add the salt, and turmeric and again stir well. Lastly add the water and increase the heat a little and do a final taste test to make sure the rice is perfect. Let the rice boil until you see most of the water disappeared, cover the rice and lower the heat and let the rice cook for about 15 minutes. Fluff up the rice and serve!
This can be served with any curry or alone.
